Shabby Chic

no, it's just a shabby sheet. we all remember a few doors like this when we were younger.

Sis comes over to do the faux marble effect on the wall board. The images do not really show how well it turned out, it is just what I was hoping for and Kay is pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it is.. Of course, we have done our best to drag out this simple bathroom makeover by painting the cabinets in the wrong color and other practice stuff. We are almost ready for a few accessories like window treatment and maybe an added shower curtain.

I can see the faux in this photo. It looks nice. You've put a lot of work into this, and it certainly shows.

Everything looks so good, guys.

Nice

The ladder is faux, too.

I see her painting and you pointing.

Don't mess it up. She's worked too hard for you to blow it.

The bathroom is 1 sheet in the wind.

the ladder has seen many shades of paint, perhaps we can use it as an accessory.

You've worked hard. We know that feeling of pride when you stand back and enjoy the difference. There is so much to be proud of. Great, just great.

it's a lot like karate kid: "wipe on, wipe off" - and we did a lotta it! lol.

byron sd it might be considered "poor man's marble" but people who can do these faux jobs get pd a lotta money for it. (kay fixed us a good supper in lieu of that 'lotta money' - lol) he and kay were both very proud of the job and even the boys oohed and ahhed when they came it. must say it came out especially nice. byron did a mean job on the veins. at first kay was saying we didn't need a feather bec we didn't need any veins but byron hadn't added very many to the "marbled" wall when she changed her mind in a hurry! they really made the job.

we used sea sponges and plastic bags for the mottled background using a mixture of glaze, paint and water. byron helped with a whole lot of that, then he came behind me with a feather adding all the veins. having the marble underfoot was a bonus in terms of providing a good original as a model to work towards. the walls came out really nice and seemed to pull together the color on the top of the wall with the marble underfoot.

we were proud of our work, and rightly so, as it looked really good at the end of the day.

I tried faux once. I painted over it. I didn't like the mess I made of it. Too difficult to acheive the right result. Looks like you pulled it off.

Byron @ said...

i did veins with a feather. whew!!

Lotus Dale said...

yeah, and he did an awesome job of it too! the veins really made the wall. looks awesome IRL (in real life), better than you can tell in the photos!

ever used a feather? it can be quite exhausting.

Charles Cirilo said...

I used to carry a feather-duster around in my back pocket on the job. I was apparently the only one following directions to do so. I gathered some attention to myself by doing it and raised a few heckler's barbs. I rose to the occasion by telling them one and all that my wife really liked the feather-duster. She would put on her cowgirl boots and spurs and stick it up my butt, riding me like a bronc-buster while yelling, "gitty-up!"

Does this qualify? It was exhausting...

I know you didun't.

Charles Cirilo said...

Which? Say it, or do it?

now, if you could combine some paint with that, you could create some interesting effects.
