The parade is Saturday and we don't have a lot of time and are having to work long hours after dark.
With the temperature drop, you can see I had to build a makeshift fire. I had everything worked out in my
head until Kay checked with the parade organizer and found out the theme for this year is Santa's Workshop. Duh.
As you can see, it is incomplete, I will post some finished pictures when I can.
Wishing her luck for !st place this year, she deserves it.

perfect flooring for santa's shop. nice job. have curt's little friend to be an elf. that will go over perfect.
Carpet is perfect! lol at the make-shift fire. You know it's colder than they predicted. Tell her to get some tools or toy tools for the elves to hold in their hands while they are waving at the crowds. It's been so cold and drizzly, I hope they have a good turn-out. I remember the year roncille and her's as well as mine and mama were all here for the parade. Those were the days.
Thanks. Yeah, Cory would be a nice touch, maybe she can talk him into helping out. She has elf hats for all the riders.
We are looking around for a few of these toys. Open to ideas, but an assembly line is in the works.
It's Kay's Honda box. Recycling.
Nice touch. As cold as it promises to be, her float may be the only one with a roaring fire--it'll be the one to be on!
Is that bubble wrap?
I like the brick wall in the back.
How abt a red santa sack stuffed half full that the elves appear to have been filling. The bottom can just be stuffed with wadded newspapers? If you have an assembly line, maybe gather a few old toys of the grandkids as accessories.

Here's a sampling of 'em--more at the link (ideas, I mean):
These tools hang on the back wall:
fireplace tools?
Assembly line:
wagon of toysgifts?
signs? freestand or on the back?
Maybe sparky will let you put reindeer ears and a rudolf nose on her and she can ride the float too. hee
They have these jackets at wmart for $5
or one of curt's cows--haha:
Looking great. Wishing I could help you. Tell Santa I want . . .
Yeah, it looks great already.
Have Kay dress like this:
Here's byron:

Yep. funny
Post a picture.
All very good ideas. I can pick from here and there. The conveyor belt was already on the list.
Stringing lights tonite. Trying to finish up all the heavy lifting tomorrow on my only full day off.

If she dresses like that, I will post photos.
my sister n law ( brothers wife) works for Plantation Manor here in Winnsboro..she is activities director etc..... she is doing there float too... their theme is Cowboy Christmas. Cold this week for decorating this stuff!!!
Oh to do Cowboy Christmas! So much cowboy stuff around here. We'll trade!
It took me some time to do the lites on the front. I ran out of transparent green, too much red made it look like a bordello, white leds clashed. Transparent green, red, red, green was overwhelming cause it didn't have enough variance from the main float Finally found a pyhcological pattern that won't made judges mad when they look at it (I think).
i like the empty wrapped boxes idea. it's easy enough and still looks good. you know, the ones in the wagon.
if you dont have any other ideas for the front here you can always hang a christmas wreath here.
and don't forget to throw little candy canes.
Thst looks good, Byron.
Kay will have to start hinting early to get a cowboy theme next year. lol
Yes, we have one that will need a bunch of fluffing from being cooped up in a box. Also the wrapped boxes is kays job :)
I am working on the conveyor now.
Who would have known that a bunch of red lights together would make you feel angry and aggressive?
Could have asked the poodle dogs with their red jackets you bought them.
Anthony is supposed to come help with the finishing touches. He is quite handy with a box of scraps.
I took some pictures yesterday of some he put together at the hotel from boxes of yesteryears useless junk. Pictures up in a minute or two.
haha. I heard read that before!
lol. They are funny pups with their red jackets on--snarling and growling, trying to tear the jackets off of each other. They have them on today because I left them outdoors with their insulated pup house.
I am going to go get them a couple of more so when I get home today and find they have been rolling in the mud, I can throw those in the washer and put a clean one on them.
The little one, Lilah, can't hold her pee all day. I have to mop up after her, but Rosie doesn't go in the house--thankfully.
Don't put up red curtains and comforter and shams in yr BR. You might be fighting with yr honey all night!
Take some big, fresh, gauzy ribbon and twist it loosely around it.
Chk out the weather for the weekend here:
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?hourly=1&query=71334&yday=337&weekday=Friday
Friday, then Sat, then Sun.... I thought we lived in the south. No freezing temps, no snow--supposed to be one of the perks of living this far south with all the mosquitoes!
very cool
I'm done, that's real cool. Check out the conveyor belt.
Finally got a few helping hands this evening. Darrell helped with the twisty metallic garland and the banner. Heather/Darrell painted some of the chairs, Anthony showed and decorated the interior. Jerry pitched in with painting of the toy catcher, some tool hanging, and the toy staging. Most everything here is built from recycled junk materials at zero cost.
The paint, the skirt, the twisty garland is all that was purchased. Oh, and the Camelot banner too.
Awful cold. I wish they would start later in the day, it's at least 10 degrees warmer.
Great job! hope it warms up.
nice banner!
Good idea on the garland of cards! hey! I see you used the idea of hanging the tools inside. excellent!
love the conveyor belt! awesome job on it--actually awesome job on the whole shebang!
heh. cute cute!
It's freezing already. I too wish they'd push it back for that extra 10 degrees. Those seniors are going to freeze to death! They're not used to this cold!
Does not sound promising for parades:
