Thin as a rail

Here is the evidence that my diet is working as planned.

I just like to be cautious. It's not only good credit they are looking for, your SS#, address, and other information, as well as your name, can be used by illegal aliens or even terrorists to assimilate into the US population, but mostly just lowlife using it. Cell phones, utilities, automobile insurance, can all be bought using your information, and you will pay the price for it. A few interesting facts I can bore you with:
1 in every 10 U.S. consumers has already been victimized by identity theft (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).
It can take up to 5,840 hours (the equivalent of working a full-time job for two years) to correct the damage from ID theft. Victims lose an average of $1,820 to $14, 340 in wages dealing with their cases. Victims spend an average of $851 to $1378 in expenses related to their case.
12% of victims end up having warrants issued in their name for financial crimes committed by the identity thief

Our data is stolen in a variety of ways and then sold to multiple thieves for an array of purposes including obtaining: employment, housing, medical services, government benefits, Drivers Licenses, Passports, and of course, credit and cash.
Teens, tweens and young adults [thats me ] are often favorite targets of identity thieves. Students today have grown up in a digital society.
They routinely post their personal information to websites like MySpace and Facebook. Often, they provide far too much information...their full names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, pet names and where they like to hang out and what their interests are; leaving them (and their parents) vulnerable to innovative criminals.

* 66% of victims' personal information is used to open a new credit account in their name
* 28% of victims' personal information is used to purchase cell phone service
* 47% of victims have trouble getting credit or a loan as a result of identity theft
* 19% of victims have higher credit rates and 16% have higher insurance rates because of identity theft
* 11% of victims say identity theft has a negative impact on their abilities to get jobs
* 70% of victims have trouble getting rid of (or never get rid of) negative information in their records
* 40% of victims experience stress in their family lives as a result of displaced anger and frustration over the identity theft
* 45% of victims feel denial or disbelief
* 85% of victims anger and rage
* 45% of victims feel defiled by the identity thief
* 42% of victims feel an inability to trust people because of the identity theft
* 60% of victims feel unprotected by the police

#38% of ID theft victims had their debit or credit card number stolen (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).
#37% of ID theft victims had their Social Security number stolen (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).
#36% of ID theft victims had their name and phone number compromised (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).
# There were 10 million victims of identity theft in 2008 in the United States (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).
# 1.6 million households experienced fraud not related to credit cards
Victims of ID theft must contact multiple agencies to resolve the fraud: 66% interact with financial institutions; 40% contact credit bureaus; 35% seek help from law enforcement; 22% deal with debt collectors; 20% work with identity theft assistant services; and 13% contact the Federal Trade Commission (Javelin Strategy and Research, 2009).

Yes, well. It's Juneteenth. A couple of days ago as I was trying to log-on to FB, there was a message that read:
Another computer has been used to try to access your account settings, please log-in to your account to see this message.
After logging on it asked did I recognize the attempted access at 4:28 AM on Friday, June 18, 2010. If so, please ignore this message,
if not, we recommend you reset your password. I didn't try to change anything at 4:28AM, so I reset my password.
And this is just a silly FB page.

Can you see the family resemblance?

maybe i'm just paranoid, but the whole thing sounds suspicious. why do you need to change your password if someone merely _attempted_ to access your account? did this adventure begin with you clicking on a link in email or by typing in facebook.com (or clicking a familiar bookmark) in your browser? sounds to me like you got phished, and maybe now you want to carefully log in to facebook.com and reset your password once more.

Byron @ said...

Yes, I typed it in the browser from a computer at work. I did not reset there because I did not trust following through.
Logging in from home that evening the same message was in the inbox, so I figured it was legit facebook mail.
Maybe changing it again is the thing to do.

Maybe it was an ID ten T error.

B @ said...

what's an ID ten t error?

Lydia Carroll said...

yep. :)

Charles Cirilo said...

I don' no

Byron @ said...

It's what a smart aleck kid tells you is wrong with your computer when they have to fix something you messed up.
Write it down. ID IO T error.

Charles Cirilo said...

I've had that one before

Lydia Carroll said...

That's funny. i can't tell jack because every time he comes to fix my computer he'll be asking, " another ID10T error?"
a user error rather than a software error...good to know.

Carroll Tarver said...

I get that kind of mail everyday.I just delete it and go on doing what I wanted to
do.If all the letters were legit I'd be a multi billionare.
