kay wants the holes sealed. we have 5 boy votes that likes them open better.
we need an unbiased vote.

Seal over the cabinets, open over the sink. Next year change it around.

Lydia Carroll said...

I like the closed, smooth surface myself. I like how it looks over the sink though, `as is.
Displays all the way across is a bit much for that area. If i left it open then I'd take the display away from over the sink (put that somewhere else of course) then accent paint inside the back wall inserts. Then i'd want something really gorgeous to display in there with lighting in it too; so for me you might want to go the easy route and just close them; and add those pot lights under the cabinets to light your work space.
You might get away with tucking away that clear christmas lighting tube. Should be a good time of the yr to get it cheap. :) Is that unbiased enough?

Every time. So sad.

Byron @ said...

I wasn't done with these openings, I'm just going too slow for her liking. These cabinets will get built-up crown which will narrow the opening, which I want to enclose with either glass inserts or more likely, decorative wire mesh. Sealing them up again makes me so sad and defeats the purpose. The plywood cabinets are unimpressive and lack detail, the sealed openings take them back where I started. So sad, boo hoo hoo .

Lydia Carroll said...

Well then, that sounds good if you seal it without anything behind it. I'm just thinking the room will look heavy over there with cabinets and stuff.
I think it's because i've have gotten over my collectible phase and am ready for a clean sweep. So maybe i don't know how to be unbiased_ I'm being partial to my own sense of not wanting to dust the stuff any more; and i love glass so i'd be way pleased to go there.

Here is another option. The trim doesn't have to be identical but this looks nice and would add quite a bit of character to the cabinets. And it's in keeping with the country style too that you seem to be leaning toward with the chicken wire idea. You could probably pull this off just using the router_ no added materials other than trim. For some reason I love bead-board. Put it in my bath.

Lydia Carroll said...

Click on the beadboard and look at the vintage bead-board in white. That's the one i'm talkin about.

Byron @ said...

looks promising. I had been thinking about gluing on a panel with trim around it.

Viola Hayes said...

Although the displays are pretty and I like what I see, the smooth surfaces are less busy and brings a calm--a very good mood setter for a busy kitchen that entails a lot of work on a family that works together or on a woman or man alone. Therefore, I have to agree with Lydia this time.

Lydia Carroll said...

Sounds easy enough. Will look like a whole new set of cabinets.

Lydia Carroll said...

Later might consider these kind of door handles like on the frig here, for those long cabinet doors too. :)

Byron @ said...

I'm so calm, I'm beginning to yawn. Sure, there was a lot of junk up there, that's because well... just wait a minute...

Lydia Carroll said...

because we like our stuff. it wasn't a lot but there might have been. never mind that we just like it better. I've already narrowed it down to the beadboard so i'm happy, what about Kaye? :)

Byron @ said...

...that's because there was too much junk up there... it was an unloved and neglected clutter hole..
I've removed all but one little piece so you will see it's true purpose as open shelving, open soffit, open design adding much needed depth and dimension to an otherwise boring piece of plywood door that I cut off with a vision. Now that I'm sealing up the neat openings, I shall perish. Without any character, I might add.
3 more pics half done

Byron @ said...

Prov 29:18 boo hoo

Byron @ said...

Lucky for me, the other three door fronts I cut off were weather rotten too bad to use. We are still talking a little.

Byron @ said...

too contemporary. contemporary is for people with 1% design style, 99% too much money to blow.

Byron @ said...

If it's that ugly, I'll seal it up.

Lydia Carroll said...

awh, well why didn't you do that to start with. I like that fine. My vision was cluttered. :) and i saw the same handles in a country kitchen with that very slight twist of design in it_ but money i understand.

Byron @ said...

cause 5 different people said the openings looked better, and only one Kay vote to seal them up. 5 boy votes, which are supposed to out weigh girl votes.

Byron @ said...

That's in the bible.

Lydia Carroll said...

Some things men don't like to learn._

Judges 4:9 notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. 5:7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel. 4:10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with {TEN THOUSAND MEN} at his feet:_ and Deborah. :)

Lydia Carroll said...

I see your vision of it here. This looks nice with a collection of something that fits the space. It looks more *cohesive like this. (*Doncha just love HG for giving us those perfect words to define everything) and i'm not being partial because you are being persistent, i really do like that.

Byron @ said...

very funny :)

Viola Hayes said...

I also like the holes with just one piece in them. great idea and look.

Veronica Stone said...

Not that my vote counts: I like the open look myself.

Lydia Carroll said...

Your voice always counts Voncille. And she wants to have another reunion. So when are we gonna have it and where?

Byron @ said...

Thank you big Sister! I can always count on you :)

Byron @ said...

Okay, I'm still thinking.

Charles Cirilo said...

Okay. this thread is so long it's now time to change it back to open on top.

Lydia Carroll said...

yeah, I've changed my style again since this thread started too. I like it open now too.

Linda Aaberg said...

I like open displays not closed up!!

Veronica Stone said...

The votes are tallied and the OPEN wins!! end of that discussion now for a new one..When and where can we have another reunion?

Charles Cirilo said...

I'll check with the chief, but maybe NW Arkansas?

Just be thoughtful of the amount of traveling I will have to do. It's rough on me. I look forward to seeing all my siblings, their children and grandchildren.

Charles Cirilo said...

okay. Make it work for everyone.

Veronica Stone said...

Thanks. will try. Hoping to hear from others.

Byron @ said...

I prefer warm weather. No a/c required for me. Vacation usually falls around mid-June, but I can consider every other weekend on rotation.

Veronica Stone said...

okey dokey. thanks, will be considered. others input needed as I am not the only one making decisions on this. My preference would be very close to home (Houston area) but that's a lot to ask. (Ha ha) decisions to be made at a later date.

Charles Cirilo said...

okay with me.

Veronica Stone said...

thank you!!

Viola Hayes said...

Ronnie, now you know when you speak, we all better listen. We got plenty of whippings from you in the day. It's like Pavlov's dogs. We're permanently conditioned. :o) Mid or late June sounds good for me too. Teaching ends early June.

Charles Cirilo said...

Naturally, where ever it goes, attending will be contingent on the circumstances at the time. But we hope to be there.

Veronica Stone said...

Doll, you are so funny. Byron, it is plenty warm in the Houston area at all times. Charles, it is contingent on everyones circumstances at the time. We (all of us) will try to make the time and place convenient for all. We will work toward June if that is ok with all. Haven't talked with my own family as of yet. Guess I'd better start soon huh.

Lydia Carroll said...

Ditto's to that. Later June would be better since I'm sure there will be birthday celebrations going on early June for us with grand-kid.

Veronica Stone said...

thanks Lee

Tina Hendrix said...

I am off every other weekend as well, but do have time I can take off if needed, other than taking off the week of my birthday for a cruise ( :

Tina Hendrix said...

And I like the open cabinets

Veronica Stone said...

ok, 18th or 25th?

Veronica Stone said...

We have a lot of bd's we can celebrate in June at the reunion. The 18th looks good for me.Let me know.

Viola Hayes said...

We will do Houston to keep you from having to travel. Just let us know and we will go! This would make it more possible for some of daddy's family to come too. They seem to enjoy mama's family so much. I say 18th. Cooler.

I have made arrangements for rooms at Motel 6 in Pasadena. I am working on renting the American Legion Hall. It has a small kitchen, plenty of room for our clan inside and out, plenty parking space, seperate from the canteen area, and a stage if all want to bring their musical instruments. Will need help from every one on the rent. Need to confirm a date with everyone before I can continue on that. I am trying to think of a fun time for every one. Any suggestions?

Veronica Stone said...

That is the reason I looked for a kitchen, knew u wanted to eat. area folks can cook at home as well as others that want to use our kitchens. Bring your food and prepare at the lodge or whatever. We HAVE to have food!!

Viola Hayes said...

I can bring my musical fart pillow. What is the rent and where's the lake?

Veronica Stone said...

no lake, there is a pool at the hotel. your fart pillow will be fine. have to see how many is coming and the date. as i am a member there we can get it at 1/2 price if someone else hasn't hasn't booked it. thats why i need to know real soon how many plan to come .

Lydia Carroll said...

Oh happy, happy! Do I get a gift!?

Lydia Carroll said...

Oh wonderful! Do I get a present!?

Lydia Carroll said...

Hoping we can be a part of that. Planning ahead is always difficult for me, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed and will try to plan that way. Is there a travel trailer spot available if we bring one?

Byron @ said...

Us too. Count Kay and me in, we will work toward that.

Veronica Stone said...

Since I am a member, we can rent the hall for $375. There is $150 cleaning fee. If you knew the size of the place, it's understandable. There is a $400 damage fee that will be refunded if no damage. The total is $925.

Byron @ said...

Lemme know when you do the math.

Veronica Stone said...

Thanks Bunny. hoping to hear from others soon then i[ll do the math. love you son.

Viola Hayes said...

Just give us the split. We don't know who all will be contributing--you will know that for us.

Veronica Stone said...

I need $75 from all 5 of you, 3 of us here will do the rest. ok? Don't forget to invite the cirilo bunch. Jim and i have been married 29 wonderful yrs tomorrow.

Charles Cirilo said...

happy anniversary!

Veronica Stone said...

thank you, it's been great!

Viola Hayes said...

As soon as I get it, it's yours, dear heart.

Viola Hayes said...

Happy Anniversary.

Veronica Stone said...

Thank you,love

Lydia Carroll said...

Happy Anniversary! Kick back and enjoy a nice quite evening, together in your rocker, in front of the fireplace, sipping hot tea. :)

Veronica Stone said...

It will be nice, together, and hot tea but quiet, rocker and fireplace is a different story. love you sis

Byron @ said...

Wishing you and Jim a special day. Happy Anniversary.

Veronica Stone said...

My cyphering was wrong. can u believe that? It's $65 each. Sorry. Someone should have caught that for me.Can't spell either so there. Someone let the other Cirilos know would you please?

Veronica Stone said...

thanks Bunny. love you so much.

Veronica Stone said...

$525 divided by 8?

Tina Hendrix said...

Happy Anniversary Mom & Jim. I love you.

Charles Cirilo said...

It hasn't been cleared up yet, but we may have folks from Arizona coming in in June. We'll see. . .

Veronica Stone said...

I'm hoping for all who are able to be in attendance. This place is large enough for the whole kit and caboodle. there is plenty of room to set up horseshoes, bad mitton or any other outside game if any one wanted to. There is also a play area for younger children. there is one drawback, and it is everywhere; we can only bring in punch or tea as they sale sodas, water and drinks in the canteen. Hope everyone contacts as many relatives as we possibly can as we want this reunion to be one of the best in years. Good job Chas.

Viola Hayes said...

Punch and tea sounds good to me. Aha! You've made me a poet.
