Thanks guys. A little umber, a little gold leaf shrinks this piece down to a one-of-a-kind keeper. The camera flash is pulling in a lot of brown. In reality, it blends well with the same treatment on the wood trim.
Sure I do. The input and suggestions are invaluable, and we consider every one. It's important to us that the end result is not only something we like, but is aesthetically pleasing to everyone.
I'd like to tackle that backsplash next, but I'm having a hard time finding the decorative rope border tile Kay wants that will match with the rope details on the wood moldings (and her plaque).
It is at Home Depot. However, you can use the wood rope trim, too. Just nail/glue it in place and go with the tile from there. A good high gloss paint on it will help to blend the materials together, and if donme before you tile can help reduce the amount of thinset/grout that sticks to it to be cleaned off.
The wood trim is a great idea. It'll be a bit cheaper and quicker probably. I still have m eyes open for ceramic though in a matte/terrazzo like finish. I like this style from Home Depot and would be willing to take a road trip to see it but the Monroe store availability says it's not in stock. I don't know how extensive their inventory is.
Umm, is this a flat piece? I was thinking your needing a border sided piece (for lack ofa decent vocab).. something like a quarter round to butt up to the other? This is beautiful though.
I'm not suggesting anything different, by-the-way. I think that's really pretty, I was just thinking the tile looks at least a quarter thick and you'd need something to butt up nicely.
Maybe frame would be a better description than border. I can incorporate about anything that blends with the existing marble tile and plaque we already have. I bought a few left over pencil tile from the local tile dealer but it's not enough, Kay bought some decorative edging from dirt cheap for 49 ¢, but neither is perfect. Just but yourself some cake icing canvas funnels and build your own with drywall compound. All kinds of possibilities with the different icing nozzles.

Took Lydia's beveled & stained counter edge idea one step further. Hoping this band will tie in the future cabinets on the opposite wall.
