mine haven't outgrown their cuteness either. i don't think that happens as far as parents are concerned. yes, i knew when kay told me darrell had sd something abt going to the grocery store for a couple of necessities and spending $89 before he got out that he had joined the ranks of parental consumers always in need of buying one more gallon of milk! let him have a half dozen plus kids and grandkids to boot like mama and daddy and THEN be santa all year! sometimes i still don't know how they managed. i know if it hadn't been for commodities when we were little, there woulda been no powdered pintos, powdered eggs or powdered milk on the table many times - or no canned shredded beef or pork either! yech! thank goodness for social welfare and the tax dollars to pay for it.
Hillary already knows better than to let me go to the grocery store by myself. No way to come out w/ just one item, no matter what's on my 'list'. I always try and justify my purchases with 'But the lucky charms were 10 for $10, how could I pass that up?' And 6 months later when I am still eating lucky charms, I am mad I forgot to throw in a box of apple jacks too.
no, i am not kidding on the powdered pintos. and they are disgusting too, take my word for it. one pound brown paper bags chock full of gross dehydrated powdered pintos. yech! but, we didn't starve. mama made tortillas and we had pretend burritos with fake refried beans!
haha on the lucky charms. better get ten boxes of apple jacks just to make it even next time. hee
hrmm. if they use powdered pintos, I guess I like em after all. We had taco bell for dinner tonight and I liked it. We run for the border 2-3 times a week around here. Can't beat a dinner for 2 for $3.50.
too far down the line to be a real mexican eater. all the gringos like taco bell. and so did my kids. i liked for them to like it too, because of the price.
i like my refried beans to have pinto lumps in them, pintos not quite squished. i LOVE pintos abt as much as i love black eyes, and large limas (butter beans). those are my three favorite beans.
lol. i was thinking the same thing! all the purple hulls we ever grew in centerville were a variety of blackeye peas! i thought, yea, we like the same ol' beans!
How abt A pea is a pea, or IS IT? ... as far as i'm concerned, a little tinge of purple on the seed pod does not a better bean make! and i'm perfectly content with black eyes vs. buff, brown, or pink eyes! It's all in the cooking, imo, and if you haven't eaten any of my blackeyes, then you are missing something really delicious! on the other hand, if i had a good mess of purple hulls, infinitely harder to hull if they are crowded in the hull, i'd cook them up like the blackeyes and once done, you wouldn't know the difference. i cook a mean pot of beans!
so technically, they are both cowpeas, "one and the same". the difference being in the color.
hee. if i cook them, they WILL be delicious! the nice thing abt fresh purple hulls is you can snap them if they are too green to hull and the snaps cook up nicely in your pot of beans. i don't particularly like the hulls on crowders tho. hulls never seem to make it into a pot of non-purple hull blackeyes however, so i dunno abt those.

They are both so, so cute.

I think that Taco Bell uses powdered pintos

black eyes, black beans and bbq baked beans here please.
Pintos, Butter Beans, and Purple Hulls.
aren't purple hulls and black eyes the same thing? I think you stole mom's answer.
where's the party? I'll bring the cabbage!
lol. i was thinking the same thing! all the purple hulls we ever grew in centerville were a variety of blackeye peas! i thought, yea, we like the same ol' beans!
sounds like new years, don't it!?
Nope. They are not the same. They are a different variety. I find them to be more tasty than black eyes. See this Purple Hulls.
