I am romantic

I I am romantic.m romantic.
33 years ago, as we returned from our honeymoon, I was broke, almost!
I had one dollar left in my pocket, and we stopped at the Handy Pak, bought a cola and a bag of peanuts to share.
It must have been an incredible omen, as ever since then, we seen to be very broke come September 3rd.
Never forgetting our humble beginnings, I return today with a bottled coke and a bag of peanuts.
It cost me $1.40. I think this means that my investment has increased in value by 40%.
I may be broke, I may be overextended on my cc, and under paid on my taxes(again), but I am happy.
God has surely smiled on me.

This is me and my sweetheart a few days ago.
As I gaze into her eyes, I make a promise.
Always remember,

I am romantic.

Just so there isn't any question, that is paint.
Romantic, it's a start, huh?

A possibility she traded him in for this finer one.
Broke isn't so bad, the gov'ment thinks I'm loaded. They want $1700 and some change more from me by yesterday. Ha, ha, ha, ha.

well i think this is a lovely story. i love that you thought to buy the coke and peanuts.
it's abt a moment captured in time that has lasted a life time. for richer or for poor.
some things are more important than the money... enjoying life together.
besides you were a handsome little prince and she seems blissfully happy.
though she doesn't look so enchanted anymore she still has a smile on her face.
that counts for a lot. love to you both and many more happy anniversaries.

And we still love them, too. As individuals, and as a couple.

Happy Anniversary, that story is so precious. I hope that you have another 33 yrs together.

Byron @ said...

Thank you Linnea. I hope that you two guys have a very long and happy time together as well.

Byron @ said...

Thanks Lee-ann. There was no way I could compete with Chas poem, "Waiting For You", so I thought I would share this story of our 'poetry in motion'. Life is, after all, one long poem, and sometimes we get parts of it right.

Byron @ said...

Many thanks for the compliments! Yes, Ron, it is a long time, but it feels like only a few quick years.
I am truly blessed with a beautiful angel that I may not deserve, yet like Dad, I will hardly let her go.

Byron @ said...

Heaven
Enough I've seen of you today
to know I love you, sure!
For in those eyes I see a heart
that's heaven sent, secure!

If angels were to tarry there
For you,
I'd care no less.

Angels would have to lose
their grip,
Some how I'd keep you, Lass!

My paycheck in the bank and posted four days early. Another first! How romantic is that?

how he loved her...!

Lotus Dale said...

I was thinking of the two of them together ... a lot this past weekend, in fact. Thinking how fortunate to have found one another, how good they were together, how they loved and held on, forgiving as need be, but always loving. Many memories of their tender moments together, which they never bothered to keep hidden from us.

Yes. You two have been blessed with many years. Myself, I cannot imagine Kay ever not being part of our family.

Lotus Dale said...

I didn't have to read but a few words to recognize it. I too am glad I took the time to put the few online that I did for the mamabird. There are so many more.

LOVE IT... i almost want to write a poem ...jk

Lydia Carroll said...

well your a cirilo right? that's how it happens_ inspiration.

i remember when i was very young and wanted to write a poem.
daddy wrote some words, it started _
"A little friend i knew"_
then he made me write the next line.
"Just grew and grew and grew"_
he writes, "a little fluffy ball"_
"with no tail at all"_

elementary but so it went, his directions for my first poem. :)
don't remember how the rest went but it was kinda sweet.
awwh the memories.

i'm actually so untalented it poem writing ha

Very original. I will borrow this idea when the tots are a little older.

You can always start with "Roses are red" ....

Byron @ said...

violets are blue...
I met a man once...
who took off his shoe...
the whole village ran screaming...
it woke up the dead...
but then the next morning...
it was all in my head....

Dianne Cirilo said...

I wish I had some memories like that. I just remember getting scolded from dad all the time.

Aaron C said...

lol @tejasmidget ... yea.. America does have talent

Byron @ said...

Well, I don't have that particular memory either. But that''s what makes us all special. We garner the best, the worst, and the in-between, and create our own collective personality. Aren't you the one who brought up Grandma's stool? Here I was thinking I was the only one, her favorite grandkid, that got to sit on the stool while she prepared dinner. In the later years, breakfast for Grandma and Grandpa consisted of one egg shared(grandpa got the yolk)a slice of bacon each, and half a piece of toast while I gobbled up 2 or 3 eggs, and all the warmed up leftovers in the refrigerator, all lovingly prepared while I sat on the stool :o)
Left me out of the mural too....

Byron @ said...

Scolded, smolded. You two girls were spoiled rotten.

Dianne Cirilo said...

Do you know that I always wished that my family was as big as yours and my mom and dad were like yours? We had THINGS but not the hugs and kisses you guys did.

Dianne Cirilo said...

You remind me alot of Uncle Charlie.

Charles Cirilo said...

There are many fond memories, indeed. We leave out the not so good reminiscences in favor of the best of things and times. No matter at what point in life we create memories, there are many good times to recall. You have undoubtedly many moments in the life you've had with your own crew that are wonderful. The photos we saw of your Mom and you kids seem to convey real love and closeness.
If looking over a deep precipice is unsettling, then I say look into the wonderful wide sky for the vista that fills your heart with wonder. Choose your memories selectively, and cherish them madly. memory is your friend when you invite its best parts in.

Dianne Cirilo said...

You always understand and say the right thing, thanks cuz.

Dianne Cirilo said...

Why don't you remember the stool? Aren't you older than me? Hahaha I even got scolded from grandma for putting pennys on the railroad
tracks. hahahah, ok maybe I deserved that one.

Charles Cirilo said...

We just love you guys...you are among our collective favorite memories. Do you remember when we had that large four-wheeled trailer that Daddy pulled to the beach? We drove by the apartments you guys lived in and picked you up to go to the beach. Some of us kids were considered too young to ride in the trailer, but if I recall correctly, you two oldest girls and Elsie, maybe Ronnie, too, got to do it.
How sad we kids were when Aunt Jewel, and you girls moved away to a foreign country called California...

Charles Cirilo said...

We put pennies on the tracks ourselves. Uncle Dan usually encouraged it when he was there.

Dianne Cirilo said...

Oh my goodness, I forgot about that, I remember going to Galveston and Aunt Adina putting Donnie in a basket that she put into an inner tube, tied a rope to it, that was stuck in the sand. While we were eating we saw donnie drifting pretty far out in the water. Uncle Charlie ran and got him.
Calif. is still foreign.
I spent the weekend with mom in Santa Cruz, she's 80 now. She always wants to know how all of you are doing. She asks alot about Dolly and Elsie. Her mind isn't as sharp as it used to be, but other than that she's doing ok.

Charles Cirilo said...

I remember Donnie drifting off, too. We did the basket in the inner tube for years until Lydia, our least one, got old enough to have a tube without a basket.
Tell your Mama we love her. All of us.

Lotus Dale said...

*sigh* Sometimes the loss is overbearing. How empty so many spaces without them. I have a long list of things that daddy could help me with, and a everlasting need for mama's arms and laughter. I could do with some of daddy's hugs and laughter as well, and a bit of mama's help with an also long list of things that can't seem to get done or stay done. Or maybe they could just hang around and daddy could watch a little gunsmoke or columbo and mama could play a bit of solitaire and nap in the recliner. That would be okay too.

Lotus Dale said...

that old trailer was a putrid green color, not that anyone cared. I got to ride in the trailer.

Charles Cirilo said...

Daddy had two pets. Lotus, the Charmer, and Lydia, the "Baby". You, we sent to ask Daddy for whatever we were ourselves afraid to ask, and, Lydia, the Baby simply was born in the fortunate order of last. To the end it was this way. Okay by all of us, except you got to ride in the trailer. :P

But I was Mama's favorite, and grandma's, too. I want my red and white step stool . . .

Dianne Cirilo said...

Its so nice that so many of my sweet memories are entertwined with all of yours.

Dianne Cirilo said...

Lotus do you have grandma's stool, I'd like to see what it looks like so I can paint mine the same way.

Charles Cirilo said...

Either she or Lydia have my stool from Grandma's house....

Dianne Cirilo said...

MY STOOL? HAHAHA
