Too much of a good thing

the cafe guy called me at home asking me again if i would put up the
antique street lamp. told him i had thought about it cost &
material wise, and didn't think they wanted to be hit with sticker
shock. (jackhammer rental $75, appropriate lps retrofit light $65-$70,
cement $??? by quantity, re-wiring $, installation $. He says willing
for $5-$6 hundred if thats in the ballpark. Maybe i'll do it because no
one else will...challenges $priceless.

this reproduction is similar to the antique, but the antique is in serveral stacked pieces with no means of self support

tell him you need x for yourself and he can pay for the materials and rentals on top of that. or if you are gonna have to put in time figuring costs bef you can even give a reasonable quote, then you should be charging something (at least 50) for the quote. just don't get in a bind and end up with 20 in yr pocket for all that labor and spend everything you make on equipment and materials. yes, you will be glad you did a nice job but you will still be ticked if you spend several days running and don't make a little for your effort. is it gas or electric? did you say? do you have to get any permits or inspections?
